County

County code is a 5-digit Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) code which uniquely identifies counties and county equivalents in the United States, certain US possessions, and certain freely associated states. The first two digits are the FIPS state code and the last three are the county code within the state or possession. For more information, see FIPS Codes.

Note that each 3-digit county code is unique only for a state; for the code to be unique throughout the United States, it must be a 5-digit number (3 digits for the county prefixed with 2 digits for the state). For example, there are 8 Fulton counties in the territory of United States, two of which have the same 3-digit county code. However, they are located in different states. Adding 2-digit state number helps to avoid confusion. So, 17057 stands for Fulton, Illinois, and 42057—Fulton, Pennsylvania.

You can limit the results of your search to records containing ZIP+4 information within the counties that you specified. For more information, see Order Only Records with ZIP+4.

Specify County Selections

1           On the Geography tab, click County.

2           In the State column, enter a 2-letter abbreviation for a state.

3           In the County column, enter the 3-digit county codes. If you do not know them, use Lookup.

Make sure that the county codes are located in the same row with the state you have specified. Use the other rows if there are not enough text boxes for entering county codes for a particular state. However, you should always specify the state where the counties are located in the State column of each row.

To clear the text boxes of all entries, click Clear All.
